Leadership Academy Graduate Dr. Dana Arreola Named Lone Finalist for Gonzales ISD Superintendent

The JG Consulting Leadership Academy continues to produce top-tier leaders in education, with Dr. Dana Arreola being the latest graduate to step into a pivotal role. The Gonzales ISD Board of Trustees unanimously voted on Monday, February 17, to name Dr. Arreola as the lone finalist for the district’s superintendent position.

“After an extensive search, we are thrilled to announce that Dr. Dana Arreola has been named the lone finalist for Superintendent of Schools. Her dedication to student achievement and community collaboration aligns perfectly with our district’s commitment to ‘Growing Greatness.’ We look forward to working together to cultivate excellence,” stated Gonzales ISD Board President Ross Hendershot III.

Dr. Arreola, currently in her second year as superintendent of Bessemer City Schools in Alabama, brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of educational leadership. Per state law, a 21-day waiting period must pass before the school district can officially hire her, with the earliest possible confirmation date being the March 10 board meeting.

A Legacy of Leadership and Impact

Prior to her tenure in Bessemer, Dr. Arreola served as the Executive Director of Leadership Development for Aldine ISD, where she played a crucial role in establishing a $1 million partnership with the University of Houston College of Education. This initiative created an immersive principal training program, offering aspiring school leaders real-world experience through a yearlong internship while pursuing a master’s degree in administration and supervision.

Under Dr. Arreola’s leadership, six schools previously rated as “Improvement Required” successfully achieved “Met Standard” accountability ratings from the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Some of these campuses had struggled for over a decade, yet through strategic interventions and collaborative efforts, they experienced significant improvements in student performance and school culture.

Dr. Arreola also played a pivotal role in implementing leadership academies within Aldine ISD, which focused on fostering civic engagement, social justice, and advocacy work, particularly for young Black and Hispanic students. Her work in leadership development has ensured that students and educators alike have the resources and guidance needed to succeed.
